My theory is that once he got tubes in his ears, the world sounded really loud to him, and he now is trying to match it. The doctor yesterday thought that this was plausible.
After our doctors appointment, we went to the library as it was raining and we needed an outing. Our library has a great children's area with lots of board books set out on a low shelf, floor puzzles for kids, big teddy bears, and bead mazes (like this one http://www.toysandgamesonline.com/asp/show_detail.asp?sku=EDU1026)
Jules especially loves the bead mazes, and had lots to say about his playing at the library. All in full voice. These days, there is no longer the silent library rule, but people do generally try to use an inside voice, and parents encourage their children to be somewhat quiet. I tried to do this, but Jules has no comprehension of loud vs soft voice. I whispered myself to try and model a quiet voice, and to try and get him to match my volume, but to no avail.
For an hour, the entire two story library was treated to my son's "ah, oh no and ba" sounds. I wasn't really embarrassed, but just conscious that we were an unavoidable presence during our time at the library.
